Social media and theatre can make such incredible bedfellows (and sometimes not), which is why I’m excited about a new opportunity I’ll have to connect with audiences in Victoria.

The kind folks at the Belfry Theatre in Vic have asked if I would like to be the “resident tweeter” during the rehearsal and run of The Life Inside.  We start rehearsals a week from today, so get ready for some updates.  We’ll try to take you behind the scenes of the rehearsal process, 140 characters at a time.

As a brand new piece of theatre, something I’ve never had the opportunity to work on before, there will be so much about this rehearsal process that isn’t typical in most shows.  When you license a show that has been previously produced, there isn’t a whole tonne of changes or deletions that a company can make without getting prior approval from the authors of the work.  For instance, on The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee in order to localize some of the show, permission had to be granted.

On The Life Inside, the director is also the author.  Asking permission to take liberties won’t be a difficult task seeing as though he’s in the same room.

So if you’ve always wondered about the nitty gritty of rehearsals and how a show comes together, ask!  Follow me on twitter @jcritty and the theatre @BelfryTheatre.  I’m looking forward to it very much.
